Many engineering applications, i.e., suspension bridges, tubes in heat exchangers, undersea pipelines, bridge piers, off-shore platforms, always suffer the danger resulting from the flow-induced vibration (FIV). FIV can damage structures, causing them to collapse. Investigation of FIV has attracted many researchers as it plays a vital role in the engineering applications. Interestingly enough, some studies have found that the harbor seal and sea lions can use their whiskers to detect traces left by the preys. As the harbor seal whisker has significant ability to reduce the vortex-induced vibration (VIV), and hence the fluid force, our study focuses on the cylinder with elliptical-section. The present research aims to study numerically the hydrodynamics and FIV response of wavy elliptical cylinder with different wavelength (λ*, spanwise length of one surface periodic) at a low Reynolds number Re = 100.
