Center for Turbulence Control (CTC) has four major laboratories, including the Wind Tunnel Laboratory, Water Tunnel Laboratory, Shenzhen Digital Engineering Laboratory of Offshore Equipment and Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. These laboratories are equipped with various scales of wind tunnels and water tunnels, and the most advanced measuring instruments, such as high-speed PIV, LDV, micro-PIV, micro-PTV, HWA, laser vibrometers, load cells, pressure scanners, 6-component force balance, ultra-high-resolution force balance, d-Space control platforms and computer clusters.

Wind Tunnel Laboratory

Closed-circuit low-speed wind tunnel

This wind tunnel has a 5.6-m-long test section with a cross section of 0.8 m × 1.0 m. The range of wind speed is 2-50 m/s and the  maximum turbulence intensity is 0.5%.

High-speed wind tunnel

This wind tunnel has a 2.3-m-long test section with a cross section of 0.25 m × 0.25 m. The range of wind speed is 4-80 m/s and the  maximum turbulence intensity is 1.0%.

Dantec time-resolved PIV system

This Dantec time-resolved PIV system can capture image pairs up to 1400 frames/second with full resolution of 4 megapixel, and can work up to 5 kHz.

Water Tunnel Laboratory

Vertical closed-circuit water tunnel

This water tunnel has a 2.5-m-long test section with cross section of 0.3 m × 0.3 m. The range of water speed is 0.05-2.0 m/s and the  maximum turbulence intensity is 0.5%.

Closed-circuit wind tunnel

This wind tunnel has a 2.4-m-long test section with a cross section of 0.6 m × 0.6 m. The range of wind speed is 2-50 m/s and the  maximum turbulence intensity is 0.3%.

Experimental bench of jet control

The jet exit velocity and the diameter of the main jet are 0-30 m/s and 20 mm, respectively. Unsteady minijets eject independently from six orifices, each has a diameter of 1 mm, and are equidistantly spaced around the extension tube of the main jet. The maximum operating frequency of the minijets is 500 Hz.

Shenzhen Digital Engineering Laboratory of Offshore Equipment

Horizontal closed-circuit water tunnel

This water tunnel has a 2.4-m-long test section with a cross section of 0.3 m × 0.6 m. The range of water speed is 0.05-2.0 m/s and the  maximum turbulence intensity is 0.5%. The water tunnel can also be used for an open channel flow with water waves.

Lavision high-speed PIV System

This state-of-the-art high-speed PIV system can capture image pairs up to 2500 frames/second with full resolution of 4 megapixel, and can work up to 5 kHz.
